Moondance Magic View Bungalow sits high on the rocky headland between Aow Leuk and Tanote Bay, on Koh Tao's quieter east coast. There is no beach at the property: Aow Leuk Beach is 660 m and Tanote Bay Beach 960 m away as the crow flies, around ten minutes by car or motorbike, and the property is about 15 minutes from the town.

Koh Tao has no airport, and every ferry docks at Mae Haad pier. The quickest route from the mainland is via Chumphon: the Lomprayah catamaran leaves Thung Makham Noi pier at 07:00 and 13:30 and takes about 1 hour 45 minutes, and there are flights from Bangkok to Chumphon, whose airport is 87 km away, or Koh Samui. From Samui International Airport, 61 km away, boats take roughly 1.5 to 2.5 hours.
At the pier, unmetered songthaew taxis wait for arrivals: agree the fare first, as Grab and Bolt do not operate here. The last stretch of road is steep and can be slippery, so inexperienced scooter riders should take care. Renting a motorbike requires an international driving permit, and helmets are compulsory.

Aow Leuk and Tanote are two of the island's best snorkelling bays. At Aow Leuk you swim out from the sand and reach the coral within a minute; facilities are few, so bring a mask and fins. Tanote has coral and fish close to shore, a big boulder to jump from and fine sunrises. Divers often pair Tanote with Shark Island and Hin Wong Pinnacle.
On the west coast, Sairee has around 1.7 km of white sand and most of the nightlife, while Chalok Baan Kao in the south is calmer. Koh Nang Yuan is a 10 to 15 minute longtail ride from Sairee. The east coast is most sheltered from June to September, while the north-east monsoon can bring wind and waves towards the end of the year.
